A few months ago, I had the opportunity to do something pretty incredible.

I traveled to Florida to tour four cruise ships, spend time learning from both Disney Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean, and experience firsthand what makes each ship unique.

I'll admit...it has taken me a little while to process everything I saw, go through my thousands of pictures and videos, and organize my notes.

When you're walking through gorgeous staterooms, exploring restaurants, touring entertainment venues, and soaking in hours of education, it's a lot to take in!

Now that I've had time to reflect, one thing has become very clear.  

No cruise ship is "the best."

The best ship is the one that's the best fit for you.

Just because a ship is newer doesn't automatically make it better. Bigger isn't always better either. Every family travels differently, and each of these ships has its own personality.

DISNEY DREAM: Timeless Disney Magic

Walking back onboard the Disney Dream felt a little like seeing an old friend.

I sailed on her in 2019, so I was curious how she'd feel several years later.

The answer?

She has aged beautifully.

The Dream still has that classic Disney elegance with rich, traditional décor and the kind of attention to detail Disney is known for. Everything felt exceptionally well maintained, and the ship continues to offer that magical Disney atmosphere so many families love.

One feature I especially appreciate is how thoughtfully the adult-only spaces are designed. They're tucked away from many of the busiest entertainment areas, making them feel like a true escape while the kids are enjoying their own adventures.

• Families with younger children

• Travelers looking for classic Disney charm

• Adults traveling without children

• Anyone wanting the full Disney Cruise Line experience

DISNEY DESTINY: Disney Magic With A Bold New Twist

The Disney Destiny feels completely different.

The first thing I noticed was how bright, open, and airy everything felt. Some cruise ships can feel a little enclosed after several days onboard, but the Destiny has an openness that immediately stood out.

And if you have Marvel fans in your family...

They're going to be in heaven.

From Avengers-inspired artwork throughout the ship to immersive themed spaces, Marvel is woven beautifully into the experience.

But it isn't just about superheroes.

I absolutely loved seeing Disney take some creative risks with venues like De Vil's Lounge, the Haunted Mansion Parlor, and the brand-new Lion King dining experience. These are the kinds of unique experiences that make a cruise memorable long after you've unpacked your suitcase.

STAR OF THE SEAS: The Ship That Completely Changed My Mind

I'll be honest...

I boarded Star of the Seas fully expecting to think it was just too much.

The largest cruise ship in the world?

I assumed it would feel crowded, overwhelming, and impossible to navigate.

I couldn't have been more wrong.

This ship completely won me over.

Instead of feeling crowded, it felt bright, open, and surprisingly easy to explore. One thing that genuinely impressed me was the pool deck. There were chairs everywhere! It actually felt designed for people to relax instead of racing out at sunrise to claim a seat.

What I loved most is that everyone can vacation differently on this ship.

Want thrilling water slides and nonstop activities?

Done.

Prefer relaxing with a cocktail in a quieter neighborhood?

Also done.

Multi-generational family? Couples? Families with toddlers? Teenagers?

There truly is something for everyone.

• Active travelers

• Families with kids and teens

• Travelers who want endless entertainment and dining options

UTOPIA OF THE SEAS: Built For A Different Type Of Vacation

Not every ship is designed for every traveler.

And that's okay.

Utopia of the Seas is built around short getaways, and you can absolutely feel that energy onboard.

Weekend cruises have a different vibe than weeklong sailings, and this ship embraces it. It felt livelier, faster paced, and more social than the other ships I toured.

Personally, I found it a little more enclosed than I prefer, and I connected more with Star of the Seas.

That said, I can immediately think of clients who would love Utopia.

If you've never cruised before and aren't sure whether cruising is for you, this is a fantastic way to test the waters without committing to a week at sea.

It's also a great fit for adults looking for a fun long weekend with friends or couples wanting a quick Caribbean escape.

• Adult friend groups

• Couples looking for a quick getaway

• Travelers who enjoy a more energetic atmosphere

MY BIGGEST TAKEAWAY:

One of my favorite parts of these ship tours wasn't seeing beautiful spaces.

It was realizing, once again, that travel is never one-size-fits-all.

The "perfect" cruise looks different for every family.

Some families want Disney magic around every corner.

Some want the biggest ship in the world.

Some want a relaxing adults-only escape.

Others just want an easy long weekend in the sunshine.
